INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL TRANSFORMATION

We all know that we have to change. We have to change to be a better person. We have heard a lot of things about change. We must be kind, must be gentle, must talk softly, be aware and sensitive to people’s feelings, everything has been given, but most of the time we fail. We fail miserably and we fail especially when it involves people close to us. Our family members, our love ones, spouses and children. When I say we fail I mean we are rude to them we quarrel with them we are not sensitive to their feeling, we say some things that are hurting. Why? On this spiritual journey we a supposed to do all the good things, but we fail. Ask yourselves why? The reason why we fail is because we have only external transformation. Our transformation is external. What we need is internal transformation. They are two different things.

External transformation is when we meet our friends and people that we do not know, we very kind and gentle to everyone. That is only external. External transformation is only you are good to people because you want people to think you are good. External transformation is like a doctor, when you have a pain, he treats you for the pain and not the root cause of the pain. We all have external transformation. We all take care of our words, we all take care of our actions but we do not cure ourselves internally.

Internal transformation requires you to sit down and think of two things. How your mind acts and how are your feelings towards certain things or someone. These two things I have said many times. The key to your spiritual progress is internal transformation not external transformation. Forget about external transformation. A lot of people may say “This guy is very good, very kind and gentle” but what goes on in his mind, nobody can see. It is between him and God. So go for internal transformation. Internal transformation requires you to do two things. How your mind works, how you perceive people. Perception as what Guru Gopal said “Perception leads to attitude and behaviour.” How I think? If I think you are so and so, I act and behave exactly like who I think you are to me. If I treat you like another child of God, I will treat you like I treat myself. If I think you are lower than me, I will treat you low, I will talk down to you. That is wrong and that is how most people will act. That is having a wrong perception, which leads to the wrong attitude and behaviour.

That is YOUR MIND. The gateway to all things good or bad, your nemesis, the battle which you fight with on a daily basis. However some are not aware of this and they go on making mistakes after mistakes and they put the blame on someone else. This is the key to your transformation, your own MIND.

Then comes our feelings. The feeling has to change. Internal transformation requires the change of feeling towards others and all things in general. Towards everything, towards nature and towards animals. When we change internally, there is no more external transformation because it is second nature to you. Just like breathing , it is second nature to you.

Before you can do that, before you can change internally, you have to put into practice what has been said so many times so that it becomes second nature to you. Let’s say your problem is you always look down on people for example. Tomorrow when you go to work, when you look at people, don’t judge. We all tend to judge without being conscious of it. When you sit it the train and watch people, you judge people in your mind. Whether you like it or not. It is mental habit. We all judge and that is where the fine tuning comes in. We must stop judging. If you are to judge, take that person as another child of God like you. “You are me and I am you.” Then this harmony takes place within you. We all judge in the mind. If you need to form an opinion in your mind about someone, form a positive one.

All forms of feelings come from your heart and that has to be addressed. The feeling of fear, jealousy, envy, greed hatred, resentment. All these things have to surface whether you like it or not. That is what the “Human Relations Approach To God” is all about. If you change your feelings internally, your thinking will surely change towards the positive and with it comes your words and actions. You don’t have to think about it. External transformation lasts for a very short time and soon you can be caught in a situation where you lose your temper, you say something wrong. If you have internal transformation, you will be right every time. You cannot go wrong because the two things, the mind and the heart, cannot go wrong. You correct these two things and everything will be O.K.

So remember this, you can correct your words and your action, it is external transformation. Internal transformation is correcting your mind and your feeling. When these two things are totally corrected, you are O.K. This is the journey to self-realisation. But it requires effort. It requires you to sit down, think, meditate, contemplate, find what is wrong with you, what is the problem. Do not focus on other people problems or faults. If you don’t like someone, everything he does is wrong. He can be the most perfect person, he can be an angel but to you, he is wrong. To another person who loves him, everything is O.K.

You must know that God loves everyone, God does not judge. So if you want to be like Him, this is what you have to be. You must not judge. Everyone is a child of God, everyone is on the same journey like you. So remember these, two things, the mind and the heart, the most difficult part is the mind and heart but if you can correct these two things, you have made it. You have reached the end of your journey.
